The Ashoka Investments Club consists of finance enthusiasts committed to establishing a passion for investment research and analysis and fostering an investment ethos at Ashoka University.
As a group, we aim to create an environment conducive to developing essential skill sets, such as fundamental analysis, central to the domain of investment management. We empower our members to strive toward attaining financial mastery by creating a framework that enables them to conduct company analysis through a multi-facet approach involving industry research, company-management assessment and a quantitative evaluation of company financials. This comprehensive approach not only allows members to share their new-found learnings with the group but also maintains the high standards associated with equity research that we wish to uphold at the Ashoka Investments Club.
Apart from company analysis, we look to broaden our skill set by hosting meetings with industry experts and having peer mentoring sessions. We also love educating ourselves by conducting in-depth research on various other topics in the spectrum of economics and finance, such as financial history and crises and innovative disruptions in the fintech space.
The club has a diverse set of members keen to put these skills to work for their personal portfolios and future careers in Asset Management, Private Equity and Venture Capital. After discussions with the Ashoka Administration, we have successfully set up our undergraduate investment fund, Bodhi Capital, which emphasises learning by making investment decisions in the Indian stock market.
Mission: During the early years of Ashoka, few students were interested in stock market investing and finance. Moreover, even if students were interested, there was no singular unified platform where they could discuss their ideas and interests with their peers. The Ashoka Investments Club was established to democratise the knowledge of finance among such students, irrespective of their background, so that they can connect, collaborate and communicate to improve their understanding of stock markets, finance and everything in between.
In essence, our mission is three-fold: To enable students from a liberal arts education to develop their interests in finance; Educate students to become well-informed individuals in finance and help them pursue careers in finance, generally thought of as choices for more business-oriented programs; To provide a mutually beneficial platform for students, alumni, founders of Ashoka, and recruiters. By bridging the gap between industry and academia, we offer a well-informed, motivated and highly skilled set of students to employers in finance and consulting. Some of our team members have completed internships and secured full-time roles with prominent PE/VC firms, leading Asset Management Companies, Investment Banks and the Big 4 accounting firms.
